Banca Comercială Română (BCR) announces its adoption of the national RoPay system, the newest and most innovative payment and collection method available in Romania. The service is integrated directly into the George app, offering customers a fast, secure, and intuitive digital experience.
The new system is based on account-to-account (P2P) transfers, without using a bank card. RoPay enables instant transfers in lei by scanning a QR code, eliminating the need to manually enter the payer’s or recipient’s details.
"By integrating RoPay into George, we continue to develop our digital ecosystem and provide customers with modern financial solutions that simplify everyday life. It is a natural step toward the future of instant payments, where technology removes traditional barriers and brings more efficiency to daily transactions. At the same time, it contributes to the adoption of a new interoperability standard in the Romanian banking system, significantly simplifying the experience for financial service users.
The project was implemented in record time, reaffirming our ability to quickly and efficiently deliver innovative solutions that directly impact how people interact with banking services. And this is just the beginning — in the near future, we will continue developing RoPay by integrating the AliasPay service and launching merchant-focused solutions for RoPay collections,” said Cristian Mustață, Deputy Executive Director, Retail Distribution BCR.
