About RoPay

RoPay is the national service for instant payments with QR code scanning, deep link, NFC (contactless) or using your mobile number, developed by TRANSFOND and Romanian banks.

National instant mobile payments service

RoPay was developed by TRANSFOND and The Romanian Association of Banks and is offered to end consumers through the mobile banking applications of commercial banks in Romania.

The service provides in-use a fast and enjoyable payment experience (initiation and execution) so that it is adopted on the daily basis.

RoPay aims to become part of the life of each of us.

The speed behind the payment transactions is ensured by the Instant Payments service (SENT Automated Clearing House Component) that underpins RoPay, as well as the functionalities implemented by the banks participating in this system.

Security is the business card of TRANSFOND, the operator and administrator of RoPay. As a core activity, TRANSFOND has been responsible for electronic interbank clearing in Romania since 2005. Since its operationalisation and to date, the Automated Clearing House has functioned in an exemplary manner, with maximum availability and security parameters.

  • A system for initiating instant interbank and intra-bank payments via mobile devices on the basis of a payment request.
  • Ensure RoPay payment initiation;
  • Intermediate recipient and payer access to the RoPay service to facilitate the secure exchange of payment details through the central system;
  • Process the payment interbank (via the Instant Payment System) or intra-bank, after authorisation by the payer, within a maximum of 10 seconds;
  • Notify the recipient that the money has reached their account.
  • For online or POS payments;
  • Provide secure transmission of payment requests between the trader and the central RoPay system;
  • Notify the trader recipient of payment for the release of products.
  • An individual or a company initiating the payment following receipt by their bank of payment details from the central RoPay system.
  • An individual or a company who wants to cash out via the RoPay service by generating a payment request.

There are several types of recipients:

  • Individual consumer – in which case we have P2P flows. The recipient uses a Mobile Banking solution provided by the bank to initiate the flow.
  • Trader / any other company –These are institutions/ trader companies that have a payment receiving infrastructure (cash registers, POS mPOSs) provided and connected directly to the trader's bank or provided by a processor. Flows are P2B, including POS/mPOS or payment using a static QR/sticker.
  • Online trader/ any other company – This type of trader uses a payment processor or bank that offers Online Payment Gateway services.
